PUBLISHED 6 OCT 2021
Should you move home this year? As things reopen with the hope that Covid vaccines will bring our lives back to normal, many people are considering buying or selling their Cape Town home.
If you're still on the fence moving wise, we'd love to help you decide. Here are some great reasons to move house and some tips for finding your dream home and the suburb that best suits your stage of life.
Is there ever a right time to move?
People move home for a variety of reasons; it could be as an investment, for a career change, a different stage in your life or simply because you feel like an upgrade. Here are some of the most common reasons people move home:
A growing family needs more space
New career, new city
Family life in the suburbs
Close to schools
Improved financial situation
Family commitments to care for elderly
Knowing why you want to move is a great place to start when making the decision to move home. The next stage is how to go about choosing your next home.
Again, there are many factors that could influence your choice such as pricing- can you get good value for your money in the area you are considering, is there access to good health care and local shops for ease of daily shopping needs? Here are some of the biggest influencers:
Proximity to work
If the company you work for is returning to the office you’ll need to start thinking about things like your daily commute which may have been far from your mind during the work from home era. Perhaps you landed a new job or changed jobs during lockdown with little thought to where you would eventually be going in to work.
On the other hand, if you're going to be working remotely at least a few days of the week you may want to opt for a property that's a little further out of the city and gives you access to the beach or nature for great work life balance.
Cape Town is well known for its fantastic educational offerings, and this applies to primary and high school as well as the city's universities. If you're in the southern suburbs you'll have excellent schooling options in Rondebosch, Claremont, and Newlands.
Looking to relocate to the northern seaboard? You'll find excellent schools in the areas like Blouberg, or Plattekloof, and Durbanville in the northern suburbs.
We've all had our share of staying home over the past two years and if you're looking forward to being out and about again, you’ll want to choose an area that has quick access to shopping malls, kids’ entertainment, and a buzzing nightlife. Cape Town’s coastal suburbs like Green Point and Seapoint as well as the CBD (and areas like Rondebosch and Observatory for the younger crowd) are all excellent options.
Whatever your reason for moving, we’ll help you find your new Cape Town home
